What permits apply in unincorporated Merced County?
Outside city limits, a porta potty placed on a county road or shoulder needs an encroachment permit from the Merced County Department of Public Works, Roads Division. Units on private land, such as a field edge, ranch yard or driveway, usually need no permit. Placing a unit on a county road or shoulder near towns like Ballico or Le Grand requires this permit before delivery day.
Public events with food booths also follow county environmental health rules for temporary food facilities. Contact Merced County Division of Environmental Health for event requirements.
What makes sites in Merced County different?
The county runs from Pacheco Pass in the west across flat valley floor. It reaches the Sierra foothills near Snelling. Milk is one of the county's top farm products. The county is also home to UC Merced. Those two facts decide where units go, which unit types fit, and how often they need service in Merced County.
