What permits apply in unincorporated Contra Costa County?
Outside city limits, a porta potty placed on a county road or shoulder needs an encroachment permit from the Contra Costa County Public Works Department. Units on private land, such as a field edge, ranch yard or driveway, usually need no permit. A unit on a county road in Byron, Knightsen, or Discovery Bay needs this permit; Brentwood and Antioch streets go through each city.
Public events with food booths also follow county environmental health rules for temporary food facilities. Contact Contra Costa Health, Environmental Health Division for event requirements.
What makes sites in Contra Costa County different?
East County borders the Delta. Narrow levee roads lead to low island land around Bethel Island and Discovery Bay. East County still has working farms around Brentwood and Byron, while the county's industrial shoreline holds several oil refineries. Those two facts decide where units go, which unit types fit, and how often they need service in Contra Costa County.
